National park lures tourists to Croatia, says minister
12 October 2009Holidays in Croatia are growing more popular and successful by the year, according to the country's tourism minister Damir Bajs.
The government official also claimed the Baltic country is the only nation that has had more arrivals and overnight stays in 2009 compared with 2008 figures, the Croatian Times reports.
He said the success of Plitvicka jezera, a national park in Lika-Senj county, was partly behind Croatia's good performance in tourism despite the credit crunch.
The park has already attracted 905,000 visitors this year and turnover is up by more than 20 per cent.
Between January and September this year there were 55.2 million overnight stays in Croatia, according to Mr Bajs - a figure that is one per cent up on last year.
Last week the head of the Croatian Camping Board revealed the number of campers choosing Croatia as a holiday destination is also up.
Tent and caravan trips to the Adriatic coast have risen by 4.2 per cent this year.
