New cable car 'marks return of popular attraction for tourists in Croatia'
28 May 2010The return of a popular cable car in Dubrovnik will help travellers to Croatia enjoy a different view of the city.
Due to open next month, the transport is a replacement for a previous cable car that ran throughout the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s.
Meri Matesic, director at the Croatia National Tourist Office in London, says visitors will be able to reach the top of Mount Srdj in just three minutes.
"It has been completely renovated and is due to open by the middle of June," she explains.
Once at the summit, tourists will be able to enjoy the view, not only over the ancient city, but the crystal-clear waters of the Adriatic Sea too.
Ms Matesic states the cable car was one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region after it was built in 1969, until it was put out of service more than 25 years later.
Mount Srdj lies adjacent to the city of Dubrovnik and also offers views into neighbouring Herzegovina.
