New technology could help tourists in Croatia

Visitors to Croatia could benefit from a new email and mobile text service that will allow Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) members to send information to holidaymakers before and during their holiday.

The communication scheme, to be known as ABTA Travel Buddy, will send information on flights, hotels, visa requirements and local amenities to tourists via email and text messages.

The scheme is being funded by the Foreign Office.

It will allow travellers in Croatia to be informed of which beautiful beaches to sunbathe on, the historical sights worth visiting and, in the worst cases, will help with emergencies.

Holidaymakers will also be warned of the importance of having travel insurance whilst abroad.

Mark Tanzer, chief executive of ABTA, said: "ABTA is providing this service to members at no cost to help them provide exemplary customer service, particularly at times of emergencies when fast and effective information is needed."

Last week the Trip Advisor website suggested visitors to Croatia read reviews and guides on where to visit on their site before departure to the Adriatic coast.
