Number of Dubrovnik holidays could be set to double

The capacity for double the number of people to take a Dubrovnik holiday compared with current levels will be in place by 2013.

Reconstruction work is already underway at the ancient city's airport, reports the Croatian Times.

Indeed, some new buildings are already starting to be completed, with prime minister Jadranka Kosor opening a new passenger facility yesterday (May 12th).

Croatia is investing €160 million (£137 million) in the project that will see the travel hub receive a makeover to become one of the most modern in Eastern Europe, the newspaper explains.

Not only will that allow more people the opportunity to enjoy a break in Dubrovnik - possibly in a Croatian villa - it will also mean their experience when flying in and out could be improved.

Dubrovnik is one of Europe's most popular holiday destinations and was named by the Guardian this year as its second most romantic spot in the continent.
