Number of Zagreb travellers hits 2 million
22 December 2009The popularity of travel to Zagreb may have been highlighted by the news that the city's airport recently dealt with its two millionth customer of the year.
Haris Alodbasic, who was flying from the Croatian capital to Paris with Air France, was awarded a 200 (£178) gift voucher to spend in the travel hub's duty free stores as recognition of the statistic, according to the Croatian Times.
Air France also gave Mr Alodbasic a free ticket to travel to any of its European destinations from his home in France.
Although the two million mark was reached slightly later than last year, travel figures in Zagreb are not suffering from the recession as strongly as the European average, the newspaper suggests.
The continued popularity of Croatia may tempt some people to book a villa or waterfront property in the country and enjoy a luxury break by the Adriatic coast.
Croatia was last week described by CNN journalist Ami Angelowicz as being "beautiful, affordable and luxurious".
