Number of independent travellers to Croatia on the rise
20 October 2010More people have chosen to travel to Croatia this year than in 2009, new figures suggest.
A report by the portal Business, documented by the Croatian Times, shows the number of independent arrivals in the country up to the end of August totalled 5.66 million – an increase of 1.5 per cent on the corresponding period last year.
These visitors spent a combined 31.68 million overnight stays, which is also an improvement on 12 months earlier, this time by 1.2 per cent.
In addition to the surge in individuals enjoying attractions such as the sun-blessed Dalmatian coast, the historic city of Dubrovnik and the capital city of Zagreb, extra tour groups organised visits to Croatia too.
The news source notes 3.03 million holidaymakers came as part of a trip with others, resulting in a rise of 5.9 per cent in this sector.
Balkans.com recently reported that all of Croatia's major airports, including Dubrovnik, Split and Zagreb, have been busier in 2010 than they were last year.
