Portsmouth look to keep Croatian star Kranjcar
12 January 2009Croatian soccer star Niko Kranjcar could be staying at Portsmouth despite interest from other major teams, it has been revealed.
According to the Portsmouth News, club coach Tony Adams is desperate to keep the talented playmaker, who has settled into the English game well since moving from Croatia.
Despite his praise for the 24-year-old, his manager was keen to stress that Kranjcar could play even better, even though his performances have already caught the eye of Premier League high-flyers Arsenal.
Adams told the News: "I expect more from my great players - because they are great players. And Niko is a great player.
"He is a great footballer and needs to keep delivering."
He added that he was determined to tie the Zagreb-born attacker down to a new contract at Fratton Park in the near future.
Prior to joining Portsmouth three years ago, Kranjcar plied his trade with Hadjuk Split, where he notched 12 goals in 45 appearances for The Whites.
