Rail travel could form basis of Croatian adventure
20 April 2010The 150th anniversary of railways in Croatia may tempt tourists to explore the country by train on their next visit.
Saturday (April 24th) marks the exact date that a locomotive first pulled into a station in the Adriatic nation 150 years ago, reports the Croatian Times.
Kotoriba, in the north of the country, will host the celebrations, which are being organised by Croatian Railways.
Events due to mark the occasion include the arrival of a special train from Zagreb and Hungary, as well as live music and a cultural programme, the newspaper explains.
Taking the train could be the perfect way to see the most of the country as is possible, with the rail network linking all of the most popular spots, from Dubrovnik in the south to Rijeka in the north.
It may even provide a way to explore more of the Balkan region, with a Croatian villa offering a comfortable base from which to explore neighbouring countries.
