Record passenger numbers at Split Airport

More passengers travelled through Split Airport on Saturday (July 4th) than on any other day so far in 2009, according to reports.

The Croatian Times noted that a total of 17,500 passengers passed through the airport via 88 commercial flights, as well as ten private planes.

However, it is expected that passenger traffic at the airport will increase even further next month, as more people enjoy a Croatia holiday during the warm summer months.

The airport's Mirko Zuzul, speaking to the Hina news agency, said that up to 20,000 passengers - including arrivals and departures - are expected to travel through the airport during the first Saturday of August.

Holidaymakers travelling to Croatia via Split Airport can enjoy a number of shops - including duty-free offerings and souvenir stands offering scarves, ties, wallets and crystal - as well as a refreshment counter and a selection of restaurants.

It also has a VIP room on its ground floor.
