Rijeka to choose its 'carnival queen'
22 January 2009The hotly-anticipated Rijeka Carnival has finally arrived and the whole town is busy guessing who will be instated the event's queen.
Experts and townsfolk alike with gather in the town tomorrow (January 23rd) for the Carnival Queen Pageant - where one lucky festival-goer will be awarded the prestigious honour.
Be warned though, landing the title will not be easy, and the competition is guaranteed to be fierce.
The organisers of the event said: "Besides being well-versed in carnival traditions, candidates should be able to show their charm and wit, as well as their dancing and musical skills.
"Beauty, in this case, is not an advantage."
Following the appointment of Her Majesty, a masquerade for all visitors will be held at the town's youth sports hall.
Other upcoming events at the Rijeka Carnival include a children's procession, a masked marathon, pyjama parties and a snowboarding session.
