River holiday in Croatia 'still clean and picturesque'
11 October 2010People thinking of taking a holiday in Croatia on or close to the River Danube should not be put off by the problems being dealt with in Hungary.
Sludge has infiltrated the river across the border, but experts have confirmed this has not affected Croatia in any way, the Croatian Times suggests, following a report by Jutarnji List.
Director of Croatian Waters Zoran Djurkovic is said to have noted the cleanliness of the river in the country remains so high it actually falls within the parameters for drinking water.
Authorities have promised to keep monitoring the river so any potential issues that have sourced in Hungary and pass through to Croatia can be dealt with, although it stresses there have been none so far.
News of the quality of water in Croatia may entice some people to book a trip to the northern part of the country where the Danube lies, where boating, canoeing and fishing may be popular.
The river also takes in parts of Germany, Austria and Romania among others.
