Rovinj 'is a small slice of Venetian Italy in Croatia'
26 August 2010Those travelling to the Istria region in Croatia as part of their holiday in the country have been advised to head to the town of Rovinj.
Jo Fernandez, writing for the London Evening Standard, says the resort "rises like a tiny piece of Italy" - a reference to its strong Venetian style and terracotta roofs.
Of course, Istria is not too far from Italy in any case, but a touch of the country's design adds another dimension to the already glamorous Dalmatian coast.
Commenting on her time in Rovinj, Ms Fernandez states: "More than anything else - the stunning scenery, the warm Mediterranean climate - it was the food that made a lasting impression on me."
She goes on to suggest that Istria is even greater from a culinary perspective than Italy itself.
Other Istrian towns and cities that could be explored while in the region include Rijeka and Pula.
