Russians 'to be offered Aeroflot flights to Croatia'

Russian airline Aeroflot is set to operate flights to Croatia from its base in Moscow, becoming the first to offer a service between the world's largest country and the ancient city of Dubrovnik.

The carrier will launch a route between the Russian capital and the popular resort on the Dalmatian coast, according to the mayor of the Croatian resort Andro Vlahusic.

It comes just days after the Dubrovnik figurehead held conversations with the airline's chief executive officer Vitaly Savelev.

The service would be the first direct link between the two locations and potentially make it significantly easier for Russians to enjoy a holiday in Dubrovnik.

Balkans.com suggests attracting tourists from Moscow is likely to be a lucrative move by Dubrovnik, as they tend to spend more cash while abroad than many other European travellers.

The Croatian Times, based on a report by Slobodna Dalmacija, recently said Croatia Airlines is set to launch routes between the country and Athens and Venice.
