Serbia to receive education boost
08 January 2009Children in Serbia are set to receive a major boost with the announcement of a substantial cash injection into the country's education system.
According to the South East Europe Times, the government is planning on increasing investment in schools to six per cent of the country's gross domestic product within the next three years.
The education minister Zarko Obradovic said that the scheme would go much further than just schools, suggesting that it would increase the all round cultural value of the nation.
Mr Obradovic told the South East Europe Times: "Investing in education equals investing in the future.
"Only if we increase budget funds for education will we accelerate Serbia's development and create better living conditions for all citizens."
The Serbian capital of Belgrade has often proved a popular destination with tourists from all over the world, with many coming to see cultural and historic sites such as the Madlenijanum Opera House, the Instituto Cervantes and the Goethe-Institut.
