Sharks and shipwrecks on offer on Croatia holiday

Divers who take a holiday in Croatia this summer have been given an insight into what they might find below the waves by an Austrian man.

Gunter Rath, who runs a diving school on the Croatian island of Krk, tells the Austrian Times he saw a cow shark on a recent expedition.

Mr Rath came face-to-face with the five-metre shark and took several photographs during the seven-minute encounter.

"It was simply sensational and fascinating," he says to the publication, before adding it was one of the highlights of his diving career.

People who book flights to Croatia and arrange a break near the country's Adriatic coast could also have the chance to experience such wildlife in the Balkans this summer.

Dubrovnik was recently said by Global Adventures to be a top diving destination, with a vast range of historic objects - such as shipwrecks - lying beneath the water's surface.
