Shoppers could flock to Croatia after new centre opens
12 November 2009Shopaholics planning a trip to Croatia may be pleased to learn that a multi-million pound shopping complex opens today (November 12th) close to Zagreb.
The Westgate centre will feature 260 shops within an area of 226,000 sq m as well as 32 restaurants and bars and a large children's play area, reports the Croatian Times.
Additionally, there will be an ice rink, bowling alleys and an automated casino - so there really could be something for every tourist at the new development.
Focus Invest GmbH and Braunsberger Holding, the Austrian companies which funded the project, said that Westgate will be the biggest shopping area in Croatia by some distance and one of the top ten in Europe.
Construction on the site has taken only 15 months at a total cost of more than 270 million (£243 million).
An official opening ceremony is taking place at Westgate tonight before it opens its doors to the public tomorrow.
Tourists heading to Zagreb for a spot of shopping may want to combine their visit to Westgate with a music concert, as the Pet Shop Boys, Jose Carreras and Diana Jean Krall are all due to perform in the capital by the end of 2009.
