Soccer star Vejic seals return to Hajduk
15 January 2009Croatian soccer star Hrvoje Vejic has sealed a move back to his home country after signing a contract with Hajduk Split.
The internationally-capped defender - who starred in Croatia's 2008 Euro 2008 campaign - has made the switch to Split following a three-year stint in Russia with FC Tom Tomsk.
This is not Vejic's first spell with the second-placed Croatian side, with the tough-tackling centre-half previously making 138 appearances for the Split-based side earlier in his career.
Vejic told UEFA.com: "I wanted to return home because of my family and Hajduk was the best option.
"I left after winning two consecutive titles - I hope I will repeat that success."
His new side are currently one point behind table-toppers Dinamo Zagreb and Vejic will no doubt be eager to help his team overtake their biggest rivals.
Hajduk Split are one of Croatia's two most popular soccer teams alongside Dinamo, picking up six Champions and six Supercup trophies during their 100-year history.
