Solta 'is a non-hidden gem to be enjoyed on Croatia holiday'
06 July 2010The island of Solta is less known than its prominent neighbours Brac, Korcula and Hvar, all of which welcome thousands of tourists each summer.
But the fact it does not attract as many visitors or take up as much room in guide books should not be mistaken for a lack of quality, suggests Simon Calder, writing for the Independent.
It believes the island is "overlooked" with many visitors favouring the sandy beaches and seaside associated with nearby spots.
But a trip to Solta offers an alternative look at the Dalmatian coast, perhaps from its highest point which is only a short bus ride from the ferry port, states the travel expert.
"The summit of the island is a breathless scamper away. At this point you are 700ft above the Adriatic, yet only one mile from the sea," Mr Calder explains.
My Croatia labels the island an "oasis of untouched natural beauty" where windsurfing and swimming are particularly popular.
