Split art exhibit extended until August 22nd

The Chagall art exhibition in Split is to remain open for an extended period.

People going to the city while on holiday in Croatia will now be able to visit the exhibition until August 22nd.

The city decided on the extension following great public demand, with 8,000 people having visited it so far, the Croatian Times asserts.

Featuring the work of artist Marc Chagall, 77 works make up the show, with an additional 50 graphics by the painter available for purchase.

Split was supported by the Gallery Fetzer and Alte Post Kunstmuseum in Germany in its request to keep the exhibition for nearly two weeks longer than originally planned.

Deemed a pioneer of modernism and a great figurative artist, Chagall was born in Russia in 1887 and moved to Paris to develop his artistic career.

As the second largest city in Croatia and on the Adriatic coast, Split has 200,000 inhabitants.

Split emerged from a palace built by Roman emperor Dicletian, giving the city a strong history which holidaymakers may wish to explore during their time in Croatia.
