Split holidaymakers set to be entertained by Hamlet

Travellers to Split in the coming weeks may be able to attend a production of one of Shakespeare's most famous plays.

Directed by Aleksandar Ogarjov, Hamlet premieres at the Croatian National Theatre in the coastal city tonight (April 7th), the Croatian Times reports.

Budding young actor Mijo Jurisic will take on the role of Hamlet, while renowned Croatian stars including Ante Cedo Martinic, Ksenija Prohaska and Trpimir Jurkic are also set to appear.

"Hamlet for me is not a story of hate or revenge, but a story of invisible love," the director tells the newspaper.

Taking in the play could be just one activity to enjoy on holiday in Split, which offers visitors a wealth of historic buildings, unspoilt beaches and quaint shopping areas.

Breaks in Split are becoming more accessible to the majority of Europeans, with improved transport links bringing the number of potential tourists to 1.53 million in 2010, Guide2Croatia reported recently.
