Take Dubrovnik holiday to enjoy 'European answer to Great Wall of China'
22 June 2010While travel writer Thomas Brey admits being dubbed as Europe's answer to the Great Wall of China is a little over the top, the ancient walls that surround Dubrovnik are well worth a visit when on holiday in the area.
Stretching for 5.4 km around the historic city in the south of Croatia, the walls are one of the country's most impressive sights.
Originally built to protect the city in ancient times, the structures now act as a popular tourist attraction.
Mr Brey explains how the walls are the continent's oldest fortifications and have recently undergone a significant revamp.
That may mean there is no better time to book accommodation in Dubrovnik and head to the city to take in one of Europe's top spots.
A walk of the entire length of the walls is said to last just over an hour, but could be enjoyed for much longer if the numerous views along the way are taken in at a more leisurely pace.
