13 May 2010The rising popularity of Croatia holidays may be reflected by new British tourism figures released today (May 13th) by National Statistics.
According to the research, some £2.61 billion was spent by travellers from the UK abroad in March, with more than £7.5 billion being paid out in the first three months of the year combined.
March was also the highest-spending month by Britons abroad for at least six months.
In terms of visits, UK residents made 4,480 trips overseas in the month, with a total of more than 13,200 for the first quarter of the year.
This may indicate Britain's travel industry has overcome its battle with the recession, during which holidays typically fell.
It could also mean people are flocking back to Croatia - as recent World Tourism Organisation figures suggest - for an authentic mix of history and sun.
Germans were named this week by the Croatian Times as the most regular visitors to the Adriatic country.
