Thousands gather for masked children's festival
16 February 2009Croatian tourism had a boost over the weekend, when 10,000 children and parents took to the streets of Samobor for the 183rd Samobor Carnival.
Young people dressed as princesses, witches, wizards and clowns all gathered in the town's square to take part in the carnival.
A number of live performances are to take place in the town over the next week, with Samobor hosting the likes of DV Ivancica and Igraonica Pinokio.
Next Sunday (February 22nd) sees an orientation race, lasting from 11pm to 1pm, as well as a children's ball.
At the ball a number of awards will be given for the likes of best masked family and most original mask.
Located just west of Croatia's capital city Zagreb, the town of Samobor is well known for its crystal cutting, with Samobor crystal recognised throughout the world.
It is a relatively small town, with a population of around 36,200 people, according to the 2001 census.
