Tourists advised to head to Hvar while on Croatia holiday
21 June 2010The island of Hvar, located off the coast of Croatia in the Adriatic Sea, has been named as one of the top ten in the world by a newspaper.
According to the Calgary Herald, which compiled a list of the greatest islands that are off the beaten track, Hvar is ranked the world's seventh best.
It nominates its small and quaint villages, vineyards and fig and olive groves as particular highlights for those who visit.
Hvar Town, the principal settlement on the island, is also mentioned as a spot travellers may be best advised to frequent when on holiday in Croatia.
Indeed, a growing number of people are now taking a break specifically to the Dalmatian islands, with hundreds linked by boat services and each offering a distinct history and culture.
Hvar is just one of more than 1,200 islands belonging to Croatia, with other major ones including Brac and krk.
