Track progressing for Snow Queen trophy in Zagreb
24 December 2008The final preparations are being made to the track for the Snow Queen skiing trophy in Zagreb in Croatia and everything will be ready for the event on time.
Female skiers will compete in the 2009 Snow Queen VIP Trophy event on January 4th while the male contestants will take to the slopes on January 6th.
The Croatian Ski Association is organising the event which attracts between 15,000 and 20,000 spectators each year and is part of the alpine skiing World Cup.
Dragutin Ziljak, director of the Zagreb Holding Sljeme Medvednica branch, said: "We have finished 50 percent of the track and are waiting for Thursday when the weather will become chillier, after which we will finalise the second half of the track"
Croatian skier Ivica Kostelic recently won the men's World Cup slalom, ahead of Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Grange and Benjamin Raich of Austria.
He finished the run in a time of 49.26 seconds, which allowed him to pick up his ninth career win on alpine skiing's elite circuit.
