Train travel 'to offer tourists chance to see all of Croatia'
23 March 2010Croatia's upcoming entry into the European Union (EU) will improve access for tourists to much of the country.
Minister of sea, transport and development Bozidar Kalmeta expects pre-accession funding to be released, which will be used for investing in the country's rail network, reports Balkans.com.
Mr Kalmeta was speaking after a meeting of the Economic and Social Council, the members and partners of which support the planned restructuring and development of Croatia.
The minister adds that authorities are working hard to prepare projects that can be completed once EU cash becomes available.
By overhauling the country's rail system, travellers to Croatia may soon find they are able to take in a number of destinations on one holiday by using the train.
In addition to the EU money, European banks are ready to finance the purchase of new trains and locomotives, the website states.
Last year, special trains between Zagreb and the Dalmatian coast were laid on for the benefit of tourists.
