Travel to Croatia for historic premiere
06 October 2010People searching for a last-minute break this weekend could be part of an historic opera opening if they travel to Croatia.
Croatian National Theater Sibenik is set to premiere its first production in almost 100 years, reports the Croatian Times.
The Medium, a musical masterpiece by Gian Carlo Menotti, is to make its bow at the venue in the ancient town of Sibenik on Saturday (October 9th).
Alternatively, those who cannot make this weekend could include a trip to the theatre on a future holiday in Croatia.
Director Dora Ruzdjak tells the newspaper: "This is a big event for Sibenik, but also for Croatian culture. Considering this is a year of recession in our culture, this is a true rarity in Croatia as a whole."
The arrival of The Medium marks the first new opera to be shown at the performing arts centre in 97 years.
Sibenik is located in the heart of the Dalmatian coast, just a few miles north of the cultural hotspot of Split.
