Traveller labels Croatia 'jewel of the Adriatic'

A tourist from the Philippines has told of her great experience in Croatia.

Mary John Mananzan, writing in the Philippine Daily Inquirer, says her trip to Zadar, on the Dalmatian coast, left her pleasantly surprised.

Ms Mananzan recalls walking through the walled streets of Zadar which reminded her of the ancient cities of Italy.

She says the rich history of Croatia is complemented perfectly by a string of cafes and bars which allow visitors to stop and take in the beauty of the city.

Zadar is also perfectly located for a cruise of the Adriatic - something Ms Mananzan was keen to enjoy.

"One moves around in ferry boats and the islands are like emerald gems dotting the unbelievably bluest of blue sea," she writes.

From the stunning beaches, Ms Mananzan arrived in the Velebit Mountains - an area she describes as being similar to the Swiss Alps - arguing Croatia's diversity is possibly its greatest strength.

Last month tourists in Croatia were advised to visit the walls of Dubrovnik - voted one of Europe's most beautiful sights.
