UK tourists 'still taking Dubrovnik holidays'
06 October 2010A significant number of British travellers are still taking holidays in Dubrovnik, despite the summer season coming to an end.
Statistics published by the Business website and reported by the Croatian Times show those from the UK, France and Germany are the most frequent visitors to the ancient city and its surroundings.
The figures reveal 135,511 people travelled to Dubrovnik-Neretva County in September, which is seven per cent up on the same month in 2009.
Meanwhile, some 647,602 overnight stays in accommodation in Dubrovnik were recorded through the period.
But Croatia's Dalmatian coast is not only popular with Brits, Germans and the French, as the portal notes above-average visitor numbers have also been forthcoming from Poland, Slovenia, Spain, Norway and Russia.
Carol Pucci, a travel expert answering readers' letters for the Seattle Times, recently said the islands of Hvar and Korcula, which is just off Dubrovnik's coast, will be ideal places to visit this autumn as the busy crowds of summer begin to disappear.
