Unique race may highlight appeal of Croatia holiday
12 May 2010The unique nature of a Croatia holiday was perhaps illustrated last weekend when scores of surfers bundled abroad trams in Zagreb and made their way to a nearby lake.
As part of the first ever Super Surfers City Challenge, competitors were required to bring their three-metre boards and dive in at Jarun Lake, explains the Croatian Times.
It is believed more than 20 people joined in with the event, which involved surf-rowing for four kilometres across the lake.
"Who would have thought that a landlocked city like Zagreb would be a surfer heaven?", one resident told the publication.
The event may act as an inspiration for those planning a summer holiday this year, with Croatia's diverse landscape that offers a plethora of activities one possible attraction.
People interested in getting their surf board out on holiday could take a more conventional route and head to the Dalmatian coast, where miles of sea are available to those with a passion for watersports.
