Visit ancient lazarettos on holiday in Dubrovnik
26 October 2010People who take a holiday in Dubrovnik in the future have been advised of one aspect of the ancient city's history they may wish to enjoy.
The historic lazarettos around the resort's perimeter were built during the years of the plague in order to keep those with the disease out.
Now, Dubrovnik Tourist Board says they make for a fascinating tour, with visitors able to walk around the lazarettos.
Highlights may include the last of the structures to ever be built, which is located at the eastern edge of the city and named Ploce.
This lazaretto has been preserved and is capable of hosting art exhibitions and craft fairs, the organisation states.
Touring the remains of the buildings may provide a different insight into Dubrovnik's action-packed history, of which much more can be seen in the old town area.
Flights to Dubrovnik are available from the UK with a host of airlines, including easyJet, British Airways and Croatia Airlines.
