Visit rural Croatia for natural beauty

Natural beauty and the environment remain the key to unlocking Croatia's potential as one of Europe's top holiday destination, remarks an expert.

Meri Matesic, director at the Croatian National Tourist Office in London, says the country located next to the Adriatic Sea has always been a "popular" choice with UK holidaymakers.

Now it is determined to grow further in a sustainable way that offers protection to green areas.

Speaking of the efforts being made, Ms Matesic notes: "The Croatian government, the minister of tourism [and] the national tourist board together with the whole industry [are] really trying to do their best."

Although historic cities such as Dubrovnik will remain popular, a Croatian villa in a more rural spot could also be an attractive proposition.

Travellers may wish to choose from locations including the Opatija Riviera and Plitvice National Park, both of which offer lakes, mountains and a host of picturesque views.
