Warm up on winter holiday in Dubrovnik with tasty Croatian food
12 November 2010Croatia is a country that arguably has as much to offer in terms of high-quality food and drink as it does beautiful scenery and historic attractions.
Nowhere could this be better illustrated than in Dubrovnik, where holidaymakers this winter have been urged by the city's tourism board to warm up with a host of local delicacies.
The shortened days are just right for sightseeing – and Dubrovnik has plenty to enjoy – the organisation noted, but this is likely to help visitors work up an appetite.
In such instances, people may wish to try sour orange marmalade pancakes, said to be a favourite among the locals.
Also on the menu for those on holiday in Dubrovnik is kontonjata, which is a unique cheese, as well as arancini.
And the taste buds' treat does not end there, as the ancient city is also renowned for its production of beautiful wine, while a glass of brandy is another festive option.
Niko Bulic, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, told the BBC recently he believes food and drink has been a key factor behind the rise of Croatia as a top holiday destination.
