Watch historic national team while on holiday in Croatia
17 November 2010Croatia's national football team celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first match tonight (November 17th) and those who book a holiday in the country could be in the crowd the next time its top players take to the field.
The Croatian Times reports it is two decades since the side first competed in an international fixture, which came against the United States in 1990.
Ever since that historic day, the team – which wears distinctive red and white shirts – has achieved a number of feats, such as finishing third in the 1998 World Cup.
English supporters may also recall Slaven Bilic's men beat the Three Lions twice in qualifying for Euro 2008, meaning Steve McLaren's men failed to make it to Austria and Switzerland.
And when Bilic leads his team once more against Malta in Zagreb this evening, tourists around the world could be inspired to book accommodation in Croatia and witness one of the forthcoming fixtures.
Croatia is currently competing to qualify for Euro 2012 in Group F with future home games scheduled against the likes of Georgia and Israel.
