Weather, sea and locals make for enjoyable holiday in Istria
19 August 2010The hot weather, beautiful sea and friendly locals are all factors in the continuing success of Croatia's Istria region as a tourist destination.
That is the view of traveller Frank from Germany, who was speaking to the Croatian Times after his countrymen were named the most frequent visitors to the area.
Despite Istria's proximity to Italy, it is Germany that provides it with the highest number of tourists, the newspaper confirms.
One reason put forward for this is efforts in Italy to steer holidaymakers towards domestic destinations, but German realisation of what waits in store in Istria may also be improving the region's reputation.
One chief was also positive about Istria's prospects, with Denis Ivosevic of the Istria Tourist Board predicting results at least as good as last year will be recorded in 2010.
Istria's official website describes the aesthetically pleasing area in north-west Croatia as a "feast for the eyes".
