Welcome return for Olympic stars
22 August 2008Two Olympic medalists have been welcomed on their return home, according to a source.
Success at the Beijing Games saw Filip Ude and Snjezana Pejcic travel to Croatia as medal winners, reports News.xinhuanet.co.
Mr Ude won silver in the men's pommel-horse event.
Almost 3,000 people gathered in Cakovec to welcome the gymnast home, the source states.
Meanwhile, Ms Pejcic claimed a bronze in the women's ten metre air rifle and was greeted by supporters on her return travel to Croatia as she landed in Rijeka, the website adds.
The shooter is the first female to win an Olympic medal for Croatia, while Mr Ude is the first gymnast to do so for the country.
Elsewhere in the Games, the nation earned another medal earlier this week, with Martina Zubcic winning bronze in the women's taekwondo, in which China's Sung Yu-Chi took gold.
The country's men's handball team remain in contention for gold and they face France today in a semi-final match.
