Wine celebration boosts Croatian cultural offerings
21 August 2009Croatia is fast becoming known as a cultural hotspot throughout Europe thanks to events like the Evening of Open Taverns in Kastel Kambelovac near Split.
The Croatian Times reports that the second annual running of the event will bring an evening of drink and song with wines from the Kastela area.
Locally produced wine and traditional food from the area will be available to revelers.
However, there is a more serious part to the event with a competition to produce the finest grade of five types of wine.
Croatian wine has made the news internationally recently after it cleaned up at the Decanter World Wine Awards.
No less than eight gold medals were picked up by wines of the country, beating traditional wine producing nations such as France in the process.
Croatian wine was dubbed the discovery of the year by judge Angela Muir, according to the Daily Telegraph.
