Zagreb Rembrandt exhibition 'attracts 50,000'

Cementing its reputation as a global capital of culture, Zagreb managed to attract 50,000 visitors to its exhibit on the graphics of Rembrandt.

Approximately 200 pieces were on display at the Zagreb Museum for Arts and Crafts from December 9th to February 15th.

According to the Croatian Times, head of the museum Miroslav Gasparovic suggested that a high number of Croats recognise the value of the famous Dutch artist's work.

It is a rare event for the graphics to be shown due to their light-sensitive nature, proving how popular the Croatian capital is now for special events and one-off shows.

As well as the changing exhibitions, it also houses a number of static displays that may be of interest to any visitors, including a collection of architectural items, a library and a musical instruments section.

The museum was initially opened in the 19th century as a place to display art objects.
