Zagreb is "little known yet stylish" holiday destination

Despite its relatively low profile, Zagreb is a stylish, cosmopolitan city offering those on a Croatian holiday an exciting an interesting experience which will "take your breath away," according to the Croatian National Tourism Board.

Only two hours from London, Zagreb is arguably one of the continent's biggest secrets.

Describing the Croatian capital, the board states: "This central European city break will take your breath away with its dazzling architecture and city parks, plus a softer, more bohemian side of coffeehouses, cake shops and street performers."

People travelling to Zagreb may wish to seek out the highlights pinpointed by the organisation, which included the new Museum of Contemporary Art, the "buzzing" lower town and the funicular railway which links much of the city.

Tourists are also advised to visit the older, historic parts of Zagreb, such as Gradec and Kaptol.

Zagreb Airport welcomed more than two million customers in 2009, perhaps illustrating its growing popularity.
